IT > Windows Vista Windows Vista ![]() Guidelines for Purchase of Personal Computers Microsoft will be releasing its new operating system named Windows Vista on January 30. This page is intended to keep you informed regarding the schedule of support and implementation that will occur at Medaille. While Vista beta has been available for download and many have taken advantage of that, it is not a finished product from Microsoft, and it is not a supported product at Medaille. Given the myriad of implications that a new OS with major changes has on our enterprise systems and the many academic and administrative applications used on campus, it is necessary to do substantial hardware and software testing prior to deploying a new OS throughout campus and supporting it. Documentation and training materials must be revised, hardware and applications must be tested, and consultants must develop expertise with the product. Information about hardware requirements, software compatibility issues and support materials and services available are listed below. In addition, the IT Tech Update electronic newsletter will contain information in each issue. To accomplish this, IT has a comprehensive plan to ready Medaille to deploy and implement MS Vista. Because of the complexities, this will take some time and IT plans full deployment and full support later this year. The recommendation is that you do not install Vista at this time or any time soon and if you do, understand that IT cannot provide support for you if you have difficulties which interfere with your work.
